What Pixeloom stores on your device
To work, Pixeloom keeps a small amount of data in your browser's local extension storage. None of it is sent anywhere.
- Settings, such as theme, image format, default tool, timer and file name pattern.
- Recent captures: your latest screenshots (6 to 48, as set in Settings, 12 by default) with a small thumbnail, the capture mode, and the page title and site name, so you can reopen them in the editor. You can turn this off.
- A temporary hand-off copy of a new screenshot while it opens in the editor. It is deleted as soon as the editor loads it, and unused copies are removed automatically after 10 minutes.
- Screen recorder preferences, such as microphone, quality and frame rate.
Screen recordings are held in the open recorder tab until you save them. Saved images, PDFs and videos go to your own Downloads folder.
What Pixeloom does not do
- It does not send screenshots, recordings, page content or browsing history to any server, including ours.
- It does not use analytics, tracking pixels, cookies or advertising.
- It does not require an account or ask for your name or email.
- It does not sell, rent or share data with third parties.
- It does not load remote code. Everything it runs, including fonts, ships inside the extension.
Web pages and permissions
Pixeloom only captures a page when you ask it to: by clicking the toolbar button, using a keyboard shortcut or choosing an option from the right-click menu. Its page script stays idle until then. It draws the selection overlay and, for full-page captures, scrolls the page so it can be stitched into one image.
| Permission | Why Pixeloom needs it |
|---|---|
| activeTab | Capture the tab you are on when you start a capture. |
| tabs | Read the tab's title and address to label captures and name files, and open the editor and recorder. |
| scripting | Show the region and element selection overlay, and scroll the page for full-page captures. |
| storage, unlimitedStorage | Keep your settings and recent captures on your device. |
| clipboardWrite, offscreen | Copy the finished image to your clipboard. |
| downloads | Save images, PDFs and recordings to your Downloads folder. |
| contextMenus | Add capture options to the right-click menu. |
| Access to all sites | Run the capture overlay on whichever page you choose to capture. |
Deleting your data
- Click Clear under Recent in the Pixeloom popup, or use the History section in Settings, to delete saved captures.
- Use Reset everything in Settings to restore all settings to their defaults.
- Uninstalling Pixeloom removes everything it stored in your browser.
